Job Description

Are you passionate about open source and eager to contribute to the global developer community? Northbound Software is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Open Source Community Intern to join our team in Owen Sound. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with little to no prior professional experience to dive deep into open source projects, learn best practices for GitHub contributions, and engage with a vibrant developer community. You will work closely with our experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in code contribution, documentation, and community management, all while making a tangible difference to projects used worldwide. Full training and mentorship will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to existing open-source projects on GitHub under the guidance of senior developers.
  • Assist in creating and updating project documentation, tutorials, and examples.
  • Participate in community forums, discussions, and code reviews, providing constructive feedback.
  • Help identify and triage bugs, feature requests, and community inquiries.
  • Learn and apply Git version control best practices for collaborative development.
  • Assist in organizing and promoting internal and external open-source initiatives.
  • Research and evaluate new open-source tools and technologies.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for technology and the open-source philosophy.
  • Basic understanding of Git and GitHub (e.g., cloning repositories, making commits).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn new programming languages, tools, and concepts.
