Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and empathetic Family Law Clerk to join our busy team in Mackay. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a passion for family law and a commitment to client service. The successful candidate will provide essential administrative and legal support to our family law solicitors, contributing to the smooth operation of our cases and ensuring clients receive exceptional care during sensitive times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and draft legal documents, correspondence, and court forms related to family law matters (e.g., divorce applications, parenting orders, property settlements).
  • Manage client files, ensuring accurate and up-to-date record-keeping in physical and digital formats.
  • Assist solicitors with case preparation, including document review, evidence gathering, and brief compilation.
  • Liaise with clients, external parties (e.g., barristers, courts, opposing counsel), and internal team members professionally and efficiently.
  • Conduct legal research as directed by solicitors.
  • Maintain an organized workflow, manage deadlines, and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Attend to general administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing emails, and answering phones.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of discretion and empathy when dealing with sensitive client matters.
  • Basic understanding of legal terminology and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma of Legal Services or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience (1+ years) in a legal support role, particularly in family law.
  • Familiarity with legal practice management software (e.g., LEAP, Actionstep).
  • Knowledge of the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth).
