Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Student Legal Intern with a strong focus on research and drafting to join our team in Port Macquarie. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in various areas of law, working directly with experienced solicitors. You will contribute to real cases, learn essential legal research methodologies, and hone your legal writing skills. This is an excellent opportunity for law students eager to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting and build a foundation for their legal career. No prior professional legal experience is required, as full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting legal research on various topics using databases and other resources to support active cases.
- Assisting with the drafting of legal documents, including memos, letters, and initial court filings.
- Summarizing case law, statutes, and legal articles for internal review.
- Organizing and managing legal documents and client files, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Attending client meetings, court proceedings, and firm events when appropriate, for observation and learning.
- Providing general administrative support to legal staff as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) program.
- Strong academic record, demonstrating commitment to legal studies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an emphasis on clarity and precision.
- Demonstrated research and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of courses in Legal Research and Writing.
- Familiarity with legal research platforms (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).
- Previous involvement in mooting, mock trials, or legal aid clinics.
