Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Acoustic Engineer to join our dynamic team in Chesapeake, VA. As an Acoustic Engineer, you will be instrumental in the research, design, development, and testing of acoustic systems and solutions for a variety of defense and maritime applications. You will apply principles of acoustics, vibration, and noise control to analyze complex engineering problems, develop innovative solutions, and ensure compliance with stringent industry standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive acoustic measurements, data acquisition, and signal processing to evaluate system performance and identify noise/vibration sources.
- Design, analyze, and implement noise and vibration control solutions for diverse platforms, including marine vessels and ground systems.
- Develop and utilize advanced acoustic models and simulations using industry-standard software to predict sound propagation and system response.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal teams, clients, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers to integrate acoustic solutions into overall system designs.
- Ensure all designs and solutions adhere to relevant military specifications, international standards, and company quality procedures.
- Participate in field testing, prototype evaluation, and troubleshooting activities to validate acoustic performance.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, research, and best practices in the field of acoustics and vibration engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Acoustic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in acoustics, noise control, or vibration analysis.
- Proficiency with acoustic simulation and analysis software (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, NASTRAN, MATLAB).
- Hands-on experience with acoustic measurement equipment (e.g., sound level meters, accelerometers, data acquisition systems) and data interpretation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with the ability to tackle complex engineering challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and team collaboration.
- Solid understanding of fundamental acoustical principles, wave propagation, structural dynamics, and signal processing.
- Eligibility for international sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Acoustics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience within the defense, aerospace, or maritime industries.
- Professional certification such as Board Certification in Noise Control Engineering (INCE).
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for noise and vibration in naval or military applications.
- Project management experience or demonstrated ability to lead technical tasks.
- Experience with underwater acoustics.
