Job Description

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is seeking an empathetic and organised Animal Shelter Intake Coordinator to join our dedicated team. This vital role is the first point of contact for animals entering our care, ensuring a smooth, compassionate, and efficient intake process. You will be responsible for gathering essential information, conducting initial assessments, and providing immediate support to animals in need, while also offering reassurance and guidance to members of the public. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the welfare of vulnerable animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the intake process for all arriving animals, including stray, surrendered, and rescued dogs and cats.
- Conduct initial health and behavioral assessments, documenting findings accurately.
- Gather comprehensive information from owners or finders, maintaining detailed records in our database.
- Ensure all incoming animals receive immediate basic care, comfort, and appropriate housing.
- Communicate sensitively and effectively with the public regarding intake procedures and animal welfare concerns.
- Coordinate with veterinary staff for immediate medical attention as required.
- Assist with the transfer and placement of animals within the shelter system.
- Maintain strict adherence to animal welfare standards and organizational policies.
- Provide administrative support for intake documentation and record-keeping.

- Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle animals safely and calmly, with basic animal handling knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working or volunteering in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, or similar animal care environment.
