Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Aquarium & Exotic Pet Store Assistant to join our growing team. This role is perfect for an individual with a genuine love for animals, especially aquatic and exotic species, and a desire to work in a dynamic retail environment. You will be instrumental in the daily care of our diverse animal inhabitants, assisting customers with their pet needs, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our store. Full training on specific animal care protocols and retail operations will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone eager to learn and grow within the pet industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding, cleaning, and maintenance for aquariums, terrariums, and other animal habitats.
- Monitor animal health and well-being, reporting any concerns to management immediately.
- Assist customers with selecting pets, products, and provide accurate, helpful advice on animal care.
- Operate POS system, handle cash and card transactions, and manage inventory.
- Receive, unpack, and stock merchandise, ensuring shelves are well-organized and displays are appealing.
- Maintain store cleanliness, including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing animal areas.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures as required.
- Educate customers on responsible pet ownership and proper pet nutrition.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for animals and their welfare.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Basic computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail or customer service.
- Some experience with or knowledge of aquarium husbandry or exotic pet care.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
