Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Asphalt Raker to join our road paving crew in Niagara Falls, NY. This is a demanding but rewarding role that requires working outdoors in a hot environment, often around heavy machinery. The Asphalt Raker is responsible for spreading and leveling hot asphalt mix with a rake or shovel, ensuring a smooth and even surface for compaction. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a rake or shovel to spread and level hot asphalt mix in preparation for compaction.
  • Work closely with other crew members and equipment operators to ensure efficient paving operations.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist with manual labor tasks on the paving site, including minor excavation, sweeping, and material handling.
  • Monitor asphalt temperature and consistency, reporting any issues to the crew foreman.
  • Participate in daily safety briefings and contribute to a strong safety culture.
  • Perform general site cleanup and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat.
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
  • Basic understanding of construction site safety (training will be provided).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in construction or a labor-intensive outdoor role.
  • Knowledge of basic hand tools used in construction.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification (can be obtained after hiring).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
