Job Description
Join Unbuilders as a Barn Dismantling Crew Member and become an integral part of our mission to salvage history and build a sustainable future. In this physically demanding yet incredibly rewarding role, you will work on-site with a team to carefully deconstruct old barns and other structures, meticulously recovering reclaimed wood and other valuable materials. Full training will be provided on safe dismantling techniques, material identification, and proper handling procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a strong work ethic, and are passionate about environmental sustainability and hands-on craftsmanship. Safety is our top priority, and adherence to all protocols is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the safe and systematic dismantling of various structures, primarily barns.
- Carefully identify, sort, clean, and prepare reclaimed lumber and materials for transport.
- Operate hand tools and power tools under supervision, ensuring safety guidelines are strictly followed.
- Assist with the rigging and safe removal of large timbers and structural elements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work site, including proper disposal of non-reclaimable waste.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure project goals are met efficiently.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy objects, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation to various job sites within the Metro Vancouver area.
- A positive attitude and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in construction, general labour, forestry, or related outdoor work.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and power tools.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of different wood species or lumber grading.
