Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Government Mailroom Operative to join our team in Springfield, Massachusetts. This active role is essential for ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of mail and packages within a government facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling incoming and outgoing correspondence, operating mailroom equipment, and maintaining accurate records. This is a hands-on position requiring attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work effectively in a secure environment. Key Responsibilities
- Sort and distribute incoming mail, packages, and inter-office correspondence to appropriate departments and personnel.
- Process outgoing mail, including weighing, franking, and preparing items for shipment via various carriers.
- Operate and maintain mailroom equipment such as postal meters, sorting machines, and package scanners.
- Maintain accurate logs and records of mail and package movements, including tracking sensitive or registered items.
- Assist with inventory management of mailroom supplies.
- Ensure compliance with all security protocols and confidentiality guidelines relevant to government operations.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal staff regarding mailroom inquiries and services.
- Lift and move mail bags and packages, up to 50 lbs, as required.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mailroom, warehouse, or similar logistics environment.
- Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping and data entry.
- Ability to operate standard mailroom equipment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to pass a background check and security clearance.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift, bend, and carry packages up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a government or highly secure facility.
- Knowledge of postal regulations and shipping procedures.
- Familiarity with tracking software for mail and packages.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
