Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic environmental team in Barrie, Ontario. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to a variety of significant projects across Canada, focusing on ecological assessments, wildlife surveys, and environmental impact studies. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive wildlife and vegetation field surveys, including habitat assessments, species at risk inventories, and wetland delineations.
  • Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation using various scientific methods and software (e.g., GIS).
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and permit applications in compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of environmental management plans, mitigation strategies, and monitoring programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, clients, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and quality assurance/quality control procedures in all fieldwork and reporting.
  • Stay current with relevant environmental legislation, policies, and best practices in wildlife biology and ecology.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in wildlife identification, survey methodologies (e.g., avian, amphibian, reptile, mammal), and habitat assessment.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian and Ontario environmental legislation (e.g., Endangered Species Act, Fisheries Act, Species at Risk Act).
  • Proficiency in data management, analysis, and technical report writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various field conditions (e.g., remote locations, inclement weather).
  • Valid Class G Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Eligibility for professional designation (e.g., P. Biol., Registered Professional Biologist).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant ecological discipline.
  • Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS Pro) for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Certifications in specialized field techniques (e.g., electrofishing, bird banding, wetland evaluation).
  • Experience engaging with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge.
  • Prior consulting experience in Ontario.
