Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Boat Builder to join our dedicated team in Port Augusta. This role requires exceptional craftsmanship, a meticulous eye for detail, and a comprehensive understanding of marine construction techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and repair of various types of vessels, ensuring all work meets our rigorous quality standards and industry specifications. This is an opportunity to contribute to exciting and challenging projects within a dynamic marine environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all phases of boat construction and repair, from hull fabrication to final outfitting.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Work with a variety of materials including fiberglass, timber, composites, and marine-grade metals.
  • Perform precision cutting, shaping, fitting, and bonding of components.
  • Conduct quality control checks throughout the build process to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic finish.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve construction challenges effectively.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and workplace regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with design engineers, project managers, and other tradespersons.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in marine construction techniques and materials (fiberglass, timber, composites).
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of hand and power tools specific to boat building.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Understanding of marine electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Solid understanding of OH&S practices in a marine workshop environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in Marine Craft Construction, Shipwrighting, or a related field.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software for fabrication.
  • Familiarity with various propulsion systems and marine outfitting.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Forklift license.
