Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Book Publishing Acquisitions Intern to join our dynamic team in Plymouth. This entry-level internship offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn the ropes of the publishing industry, specifically focusing on the critical area of manuscript acquisition. You will work closely with our Acquisitions Editor, gaining insight into identifying compelling content, evaluating submissions, and understanding market trends. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for books and a desire to embark on a career in publishing, with full training provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Acquisitions Editor in reviewing unsolicited manuscripts and proposals.
- Conduct market research to identify emerging trends and competitive titles.
- Prepare reader reports and provide initial feedback on submissions.
- Maintain and update our submission database with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support the team with administrative tasks related to author communication and contract management.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on potential acquisitions.
- Help organize and manage digital files and physical archives of submitted materials.
- Learn about contract negotiation processes and rights management.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- A genuine passion for books and the publishing industry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
