Job Description
We are seeking a talented and passionate Camera Operator with a keen eye for detail and a flair for capturing compelling visuals, particularly within the dynamic realm of media and events. Based in our Geelong studio, you will play a crucial role in the production of local news segments, community event coverage, live broadcasts, and various promotional content across our regional network. This role requires flexibility, technical proficiency, and a commitment to producing high-quality footage that resonates with our audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate professional video cameras (ENG, studio, and cinema styles) for a variety of productions including news, live events, interviews, and promotional content.
- Set up and tear down camera equipment, lighting, audio gear, and associated accessories on location and within the studio.
- Collaborate closely with producers, directors, and other crew members to achieve desired visual outcomes and creative vision.
- Execute various camera movements, framing, and compositions to tell compelling visual stories.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure optimal functionality.
- Adhere to production schedules, deadlines, and safety protocols.
- Contribute creative ideas during pre-production and on-set to enhance visual storytelling.
- Travel to various event locations within the Geelong region and broader Victoria as required.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating professional video cameras (e.g., Sony PXW, Canon C-series, Blackmagic)
- Strong understanding of camera mechanics, lenses, exposure, and white balance.
- Demonstrated ability to compose visually appealing shots under various conditions.
- Basic knowledge of lighting techniques for interviews and events.
- Familiarity with audio recording principles and equipment setup.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a production team.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Film, Television Production, Media Studies, or a related field.
- Experience with live broadcast environments and fast-paced news production.
- Basic video editing skills (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve).
- Familiarity with drones for aerial videography (current CASA certification a plus).
- Portfolio or showreel showcasing previous camera work.
