Job Description

St John of God Geraldton Hospital is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Clinical Coder Intern to join our Health Information Services team. This entry-level internship provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn the fundamentals of clinical coding and its vital role in hospital operations, funding, and data analysis. Under the guidance of experienced professionals, you will receive comprehensive training in Australian coding standards (ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS) and gain hands-on experience in a supportive hospital environment. No prior experience in clinical coding is required – we are looking for individuals with a strong desire to learn and contribute to accurate health information management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in structured training programs on clinical coding principles and methodologies.
  • Assist senior clinical coders with the accurate and timely coding of patient medical records.
  • Learn to interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.
  • Become familiar with Australian Coding Standards (ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS) and other relevant guidelines.
  • Contribute to maintaining data integrity and confidentiality of patient information.
  • Support the Health Information Services team with various administrative tasks as required.
  • Engage actively in continuous learning and professional development activities.

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a health-related VET certificate or diploma (e.g., Medical Terminology, Health Administration).
