Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team in Exeter. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, implementation, and optimization of complex industrial control systems across various sectors. You will work on challenging projects from concept through to commissioning, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and efficient automation solutions. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative spirit to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop control system architectures, including PLC/SCADA/HMI systems.
  • Program PLCs (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000) and configure SCADA/HMI applications.
  • Perform system integration, testing, and commissioning activities on-site and in the factory.
  • Develop functional specifications, design documents, and test procedures.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues within existing control systems.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and clients to ensure project success.
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users and operational staff.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and industry best practices in industrial automation.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in control system design and implementation.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, STEP 7, Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Experience with SCADA and HMI development platforms (e.g., WinCC, Ignition, Wonderware).
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Experience with distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
  • Project management experience or familiarity with project lifecycle methodologies.
  • Experience in specific industries such as water/wastewater, manufacturing, energy, or pharmaceuticals.
  • Professional certifications related to control systems or automation.
