Job Description

As the Council Social Media Lead, you will be instrumental in shaping and executing Latrobe City Council’s digital engagement strategy across various social media platforms. This role involves leading content creation, fostering community interaction, and utilising analytics to ensure our digital presence effectively communicates council initiatives, services, and community news. You will be a key player in enhancing the Council’s online voice and fostering positive public relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive social media strategies aligned with Latrobe City Council's communication objectives.
  • Manage and oversee all social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube), including content planning, scheduling, and publishing.
  • Create compelling and relevant multimedia content, including text, images, and videos, tailored for various platforms.
  • Monitor social media channels for public sentiment, comments, and inquiries, responding promptly and appropriately or escalating as needed.
  • Analyse social media performance using analytics tools, providing regular reports and actionable insights to improve engagement and reach.
  • Stay informed about emerging social media trends, tools, and best practices, advising on their potential application for the Council.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to gather information and promote various Council projects, events, and services.
  • Manage crisis communications on social media when required, ensuring timely and sensitive responses.
  • Train and support other team members on social media best practices and content creation.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in social media management, digital marketing, or communications.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful social media strategies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
  • Strong understanding of various social media platforms, their algorithms, and audience demographics.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with content creation tools (e.g., Canva, basic video editing software).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience within a government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines for digital content.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage social media advertising campaigns.
