Job Description
We are seeking a highly dedicated and detail-oriented Crime Scene Cleaner to join our specialized team on a public sector contract in Iowa City. This role involves responding to and meticulously cleaning and sanitizing scenes involving biohazardous materials, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations. You will be an integral part of restoring peace of mind and safety to affected communities, working under sensitive and often challenging conditions. This is a high-pay contract position for individuals committed to performing critical work with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to dispatch calls for crime scene, trauma, and biohazard remediation.
- Assess scene conditions, identify biohazards, and develop a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection plan.
- Utilize specialized equipment, protective gear (PPE), and cleaning agents to safely remove and dispose of biological waste, blood, bodily fluids, and other contaminants.
- Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and deodorize affected areas to restore them to a safe and habitable state.
- Adhere strictly to OSHA, EPA, and state-specific regulations for biohazard cleanup and disposal.
- Document all work performed, including detailed reports and photographic evidence, while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Operate and maintain specialized cleaning equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with clients, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in ongoing training and safety refreshers to stay current with best practices and regulations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in biohazard remediation, hazardous waste cleanup, or intensive industrial cleaning.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to varying scene conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable working in sensitive and potentially emotionally challenging environments.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.
- Bloodborne Pathogen certification.
- HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience working with public sector or government contracts.
- EMT, First Responder, or military experience.
