Job Description
Are you passionate about the natural world and eager to make a tangible difference in conservation? The National Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Ecology & Field Conservation Intern to join our team based near the stunning Peak District National Park. This is an unparalleled opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience to gain hands-on training and invaluable insights into practical conservation work. You will be immersed in a dynamic environment, learning essential field techniques, supporting habitat restoration projects, and contributing directly to the protection of biodiversity. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with ecological surveys, including flora and fauna identification and population monitoring.
- Support habitat management activities such as invasive species removal, tree planting, and path maintenance.
- Collect and manage data related to conservation projects, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Aid in the preparation and delivery of educational and outreach programs for visitors and local communities.
- Contribute to the monitoring and reporting of environmental conditions and project progress.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance knowledge of conservation practices.
- Adhere to health and safety guidelines while undertaking fieldwork and other duties.
Required Skills
- A strong passion for ecology, wildlife, and environmental conservation.
- Eagerness to learn and develop new skills in fieldwork and data collection.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good observational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and communication.
- Physical fitness suitable for outdoor work in varying weather conditions and challenging terrain.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Ecology, Conservation, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer experience in conservation or environmental projects.
- A basic understanding of British wildlife and habitats.
- Possession of a full UK driving license (desirable but not essential).
