Job Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and eager to learn the ropes of emergency management? The British Red Cross is looking for a dedicated Emergency Management Trainee to join our team in Canterbury. This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with no prior experience in disaster response. We provide comprehensive training and support to help you develop the essential skills and knowledge needed to assist during emergencies, coordinate relief efforts, and contribute to community resilience. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in extensive training programs covering emergency protocols, disaster response techniques, and humanitarian aid principles.
  • Assist in the coordination and logistics of local emergency responses, under direct supervision.
  • Support the preparation and distribution of emergency supplies and resources.
  • Engage with community members to raise awareness about emergency preparedness.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to emergency incidents and training.
  • Collaborate with experienced team members and volunteers during drills and actual response situations.
  • Provide administrative support to the Emergency Planning and Response team as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong desire to learn and develop skills in emergency management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Demonstrated empathy and a commitment to humanitarian principles.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in challenging situations.
  • No prior experience in emergency management is required; full training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Previous volunteer experience in any capacity.
  • First Aid certification.
