Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator to join our team in Oshawa. This is an immediate hire position that requires working primarily in an outdoor environment, managing and organizing our extensive lumber inventory. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of materials, ensuring the yard remains organized and accessible for both staff and customers. Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to load, unload, and move lumber and building materials within the yard.
- Organize and stack lumber according to product type, size, and quantity, maintaining a tidy and accessible yard.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks on the forklift and report any maintenance issues promptly.
- Assist customers and fellow staff with loading materials onto vehicles as needed.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Verify accuracy of incoming and outgoing material shipments.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, especially around the lumber racks and loading zones.
- Assist with general yard duties and inventory management as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating a forklift or similar heavy equipment.
- Valid Forklift Operator certification (proof required).
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety protocols.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a lumber yard or building materials supply setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of different types of lumber and building materials.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems.
