Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Emergency Medicine Doctor to join our dynamic Emergency Department team in Leeds. This pivotal role involves providing immediate and life-saving medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries. You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, stabilization, and initial management of a diverse range of emergency conditions, working within a fast-paced environment that demands quick decision-making and expert clinical judgment. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of compassionate and effective care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical assessment and management for patients in the Emergency Department.
- Lead resuscitation efforts for critically ill or injured patients.
- Diagnose and treat a wide variety of acute medical and surgical conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including imaging and laboratory investigations.
- Perform emergency procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, and chest tube placement.
- Effectively communicate with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Oversee and mentor junior medical staff and medical students.
- Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and continuous professional development.
- Adhere to all clinical governance, risk management, and patient safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practise.
- Relevant experience working in an Emergency Department setting.
- Demonstrable clinical skills in managing acute medical and surgical emergencies.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and make sound clinical decisions.
- Commitment to patient safety and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Attainment of Membership of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (MRCEM) or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Experience in teaching and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Evidence of participation in clinical audit or quality improvement projects.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certifications.
- Experience with Electronic Patient Record (EPR) systems.
