Job Description

As an Entry-Level Environmental Sampling Assistant at AECOM, you will embark on a rewarding career supporting critical environmental monitoring and data collection projects across North Carolina. This full-time position is ideal for highly motivated individuals eager to start a career in environmental science or engineering without prior experience. We provide comprehensive, hands-on training to equip you with the essential skills needed to perform tasks safely and accurately. You will primarily work outdoors in varying weather conditions, contributing directly to important environmental assessments and data collection initiatives that help protect our natural resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental sampling (e.g., soil, water, air) under the direct supervision of experienced field personnel.
  • Properly calibrate, operate, and maintain various field equipment and instrumentation.
  • Accurately record field data, observations, and relevant site conditions using established protocols.
  • Prepare environmental samples for laboratory analysis, adhering strictly to chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Comply with all company health and safety guidelines, project-specific work plans, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with the efficient mobilization and demobilization of equipment and supplies to and from project sites.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with team members, supervisors, and, when appropriate, clients.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both in the field and company vehicles.

Required Skills

  • Strong willingness and ability to learn and apply new technical and scientific skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in data collection and record-keeping.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding fieldwork, including lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs, standing and walking for extended periods, and working in diverse outdoor conditions (hot, cold, rain, uneven terrain).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a long-term career in environmental science, geology, hydrogeology, chemistry, or a closely related scientific or engineering field.
