Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and looking to start a rewarding career? The Cairns Jockey Club is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Equine Groom to join our team. This is an entry-level position where no prior experience with horses is required. We believe in nurturing talent and will provide comprehensive, full training to ensure you gain all the necessary skills to excel in this role. If you have a strong work ethic, a love for horses, and are eager to learn, we encourage you to apply!
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the daily care and well-being of horses, including feeding, watering, and grooming.
- Clean and maintain stables, stalls, and surrounding areas to a high standard of hygiene.
- Prepare horses for exercise, training, and race day activities.
- Monitor horses for any signs of injury or illness and report concerns to senior staff.
- Maintain and clean tack and stable equipment.
- Assist with general yard duties as required.
- Follow all safety protocols and animal welfare guidelines.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and respect for animals, particularly horses.
- Willingness to learn and take instruction.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow routines.
- Team player with good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with animal care (e.g., pets, farm animals) is a bonus but not essential.
- Valid driver's license.
- Current First Aid certification.
