Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Equine Stable Hand / Mucker to join our busy team. This role is crucial to the daily operations of our stables, ensuring our horses are kept in pristine conditions. The successful candidate will be prepared for early morning starts and consistent hard physical work, playing a vital role in maintaining the health and happiness of our equine residents. This is a hands-on position perfect for someone with a strong work ethic and a passion for horses, even if formal experience is limited.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily mucking out of stables, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Prepare and distribute hay and feed according to specific dietary requirements.
  • Turn out and bring in horses from paddocks safely and efficiently.
  • Clean and refill water buckets, ensuring fresh water is always available.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the stable yard, feed room, and tack room.
  • Assist with basic horse care tasks, such as grooming and rug changes.
  • Report any signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior in horses to senior staff.
  • Assist with general yard maintenance and upkeep as required.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks consistently, including lifting heavy loads (e.g., hay bales, muck buckets).
  • Reliability and punctuality for early morning starts.
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for horses and animal welfare.
  • Basic understanding of horse behavior and safety around animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in an equestrian environment (formal or informal).
  • Knowledge of horse health and nutrition.
  • Experience handling horses of various temperaments.
