Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Seafood Prep / Fishmonger Assistant to join our team in Brighton. This role is perfect for an early riser who is eager to learn the intricacies of fresh fish preparation and customer service in a retail environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring our fish counter is always stocked with the highest quality seafood, prepared to exceptional standards. Full training will be provided to help you become proficient in all aspects of the role, from handling and preparing various types of fish to assisting customers with their selections.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect fresh seafood deliveries, ensuring quality and freshness standards are met.
- Assist with the preparation of various fish and seafood products, including scaling, gutting, filleting, and portioning.
- Maintain a clean, hygienic, and organized work area, adhering strictly to food safety regulations.
- Replenish and display seafood counter products attractively and safely.
- Provide friendly and knowledgeable service to customers, offering advice on selection, preparation, and cooking methods.
- Monitor product expiry dates and assist with stock rotation to minimize waste.
- Operate and clean specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support the lead Fishmonger with daily tasks and counter management.
- Adhere to early morning shift schedules.
Required Skills

- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to hygiene standards.

Preferred Qualifications
- Basic food hygiene certificate.
- Previous experience in a retail, kitchen, or food preparation environment is a plus, but not essential.
- A genuine interest in food and customer service.
