Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and calm individual for an immediate hire as a Fire Communications Officer based in our critical response centre on the Sunshine Coast. This essential, on-site role involves being the first point of contact for emergency calls, dispatching resources, and coordinating responses during critical incidents. You will play a vital role in protecting the community, working within a fast-paced and challenging environment where quick thinking and clear communication are paramount. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped to handle the demands of this crucial position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and accurately log emergency calls for fire, rescue, and other incidents.
  • Prioritize and dispatch appropriate fire and emergency resources to incident locations.
  • Provide clear, concise, and accurate information to responding crews.
  • Maintain real-time situational awareness and track resource movements.
  • Liaise with other emergency services and external agencies as required.
  • Operate complex radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Document all incident details thoroughly and accurately.
  • Adhere to established protocols and procedures during critical incidents.
  • Provide reassuring and clear instructions to callers in distress.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional verbal communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-stress situations.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of the Sunshine Coast region.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Commitment to public safety and service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a call centre, dispatch, or emergency services environment.
  • Knowledge of emergency services protocols and terminology.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
