Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Fire Safety Practitioner – Compliance to join our team in Burnie, Tasmania. In this critical on-site role, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our facilities and operations adhere strictly to all relevant fire safety regulations, Australian Standards, and company policies. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional committed to maintaining the highest levels of fire safety and compliance across a diverse portfolio of sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular fire safety inspections and audits across various sites to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement fire safety management plans and emergency procedures in accordance with Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC).
  • Prepare detailed reports on inspection findings, corrective actions, and compliance status, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on fire safety best practices, evacuation procedures, and the correct use of fire fighting equipment.
  • Liaise with local fire authorities, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to ensure all statutory requirements are met and certifications are current.
  • Investigate fire incidents and near misses, identifying root causes, and recommending preventative measures.
  • Coordinate and oversee the maintenance and testing of fire detection and suppression systems, including fire alarms, sprinklers, and extinguishers.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of comprehensive fire safety training programs for employees.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 3 years of practical experience in fire safety compliance, fire protection, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Australian fire safety regulations, including AS1851 (Routine Service of Fire Protection Systems and Equipment), AS3745 (Planning for Emergencies in Facilities), and relevant sections of the National Construction Code (NCC).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing, training delivery, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Relevant certifications in fire safety or building regulations (e.g., Certificate IV in Fire Protection Inspection and Testing) are highly regarded.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Fire Safety, Building Surveying, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with fire safety software and compliance management systems.
  • Previous experience working within a facilities management or multi-site operational environment.
