Job Description
Are you ready for a dynamic career that keeps North America moving? CN Rail is offering an exceptional opportunity to join our team as a Freight Train Conductor Trainee. No prior railway experience is required! We provide comprehensive, fully paid training through our state-of-the-art academy, equipping you with all the skills and knowledge needed to become a certified Freight Train Conductor. This role involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions, operating heavy machinery, and being a critical part of our transportation network. Successful candidates will be self-starters, committed to safety, and prepared for a demanding yet rewarding career path with significant travel requirements across our network.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete CN's comprehensive, paid Conductor training program with dedication and a commitment to safety.
- Operate trains and related equipment in compliance with all company rules, regulations, and federal laws.
- Perform switching operations, including coupling and uncoupling cars, and managing train movements.
- Conduct thorough inspections of trains and equipment, identifying and reporting any defects.
- Communicate effectively with other crew members, dispatchers, and yard personnel.
- Prepare accurate reports detailing train movements, equipment status, and any incidents.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures, prioritizing the safety of yourself and others.
- Be available to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours, and travel as required by operational needs.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Canadian driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain railway conductor certification.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to strict operational guidelines.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb, walk on uneven terrain, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel and work on-call, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or trades certification.
- Previous experience in a safety-sensitive role or an outdoor, manual labor position.
- Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
