Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Information Manager with a strong focus on clinical data to join our team in Hervey Bay. This pivotal role involves overseeing the integrity, quality, and accessibility of clinical information across our health service. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies for health information management, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and supporting clinical decision-making through robust data governance. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the collection, storage, retrieval, and analysis of clinical data.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of health information records.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor health information management policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice on health information standards, legislation, and best practices.
  • Lead and manage a team of health information professionals, fostering their professional development.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, IT professionals, and administrative teams to optimize data utilization.
  • Support clinical coding processes and data quality initiatives.
  • Prepare and present reports on health information trends and data quality metrics.
  • Participate in strategic planning for health information systems and technology.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., Australian Privacy Principles).

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in health information management, specifically with clinical data.
  • Strong understanding of health information standards, legislation, and privacy principles.
  • Proficiency in health information systems and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex data and present findings clearly.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical coding principles (e.g., ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS).
  • Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Health Information Management, Health Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Experience with Queensland Health's specific health information systems.
  • Project management experience in a healthcare setting.
