Job Description

Aecon Group Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Heavy Rigging Supervisor to join our project team in Pickering, Ontario. This pivotal role involves leading and managing all heavy lifting and rigging operations on large-scale industrial and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all rigging activities, managing crews, and coordinating with various project stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all heavy lift and rigging operations on site, strictly adhering to engineered lift plans, safety protocols, and company procedures.
  • Lead, mentor, and train rigging crews, fostering a strong culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct pre-lift meetings, comprehensive risk assessments, and ensure all personnel are fully aware of their roles, responsibilities, and safety measures.
  • Perform thorough inspections of all rigging equipment, slings, shackles, cranes, and other lifting devices to verify safe working condition and valid certifications.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other trades to meticulously plan and coordinate lift schedules and logistics.
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all rigging activities, including daily logs, inspection records, incident reports, and operational records.
  • Implement and rigorously enforce Aecon's comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Provide clear training and guidance to junior riggers and apprentices, supporting their professional development.
  • Proactively troubleshoot operational challenges and implement effective solutions to maintain project timelines and objectives.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in heavy industrial rigging and lifting operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid rigging certification (e.g., NCCCO Rigger Level II, or equivalent international certification recognized in Canada).
  • In-depth knowledge of crane operations, load charts, complex rigging techniques, and relevant safety regulations (OHSA, CSA standards).
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to effectively manage and motivate diverse teams.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and engineered lift plans.
  • Demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety and a strong understanding of hazard identification and robust risk mitigation strategies.
  • Physical ability to perform duties in various weather conditions and demanding industrial environments.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., mechanical engineering technology, construction management).
  • Advanced safety certifications (e.g., Fall Protection, Confined Space, First Aid/CPR).
  • Extensive experience with specialized heavy lift equipment, gantry systems, and hydraulic jacking techniques.
  • Prior project management experience on large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects.
