Job Description
Are you a motivated student looking to kick-start your career in Information Technology? Southern Cross University in Byron Bay is offering an exciting Helpdesk Student Placement opportunity. This role is designed for individuals with little to no prior professional IT experience who are eager to learn and apply their academic knowledge in a practical, supportive environment. You will work alongside our experienced IT team, providing essential technical support to university staff and students, troubleshooting common issues, and contributing to the smooth operation of our campus IT infrastructure. This placement offers invaluable hands-on experience, mentorship, and a chance to develop crucial IT helpdesk skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-level technical support to university staff and students via phone, email, and in-person.
- Log, track, and resolve helpdesk tickets using our IT service management system.
- Assist with basic hardware and software troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, and peripherals.
- Support users with common application issues (e.g., Microsoft Office, web browsers, university specific software).
- Assist with user account management and password resets.
- Document solutions and update knowledge base articles.
- Escalate complex issues to senior IT support staff when necessary.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance IT knowledge and skills.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an IT-related diploma or degree program (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking).
- Basic understanding of computer hardware and software concepts.
- Familiarity with Windows operating systems and common office applications.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a willingness to learn.
- Customer service oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Some personal experience with troubleshooting computer issues.
- Familiarity with IT service management (ITSM) tools.
