Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Heritage Project Assistant to join our team in Maitland. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals passionate about heritage conservation and eager to gain hands-on experience within a state government context. You will provide crucial administrative and project support to our Heritage Project Managers, contributing to various initiatives aimed at protecting and promoting NSW’s cultural heritage. Full training and mentorship will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity to launch your career in heritage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and logistical support to Heritage Project Managers.
  • Assist with the preparation of project documentation, reports, and presentations.
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and stakeholder consultations, including minute-taking.
  • Conduct preliminary research on heritage sites, policies, and best practices.
  • Manage project schedules, deadlines, and tracking systems under supervision.
  • Facilitate communication between project teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project files and databases.
  • Assist in drafting correspondence and communications related to heritage projects.
  • Support site visits and fieldwork logistics as required.
  • Undertake ad-hoc tasks to ensure smooth project delivery.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated interest in heritage, history, archaeology, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Heritage Studies, History, Archaeology, Environmental Management, or a related discipline (completed or in progress).
  • Previous experience in an administrative or project support role (volunteer or paid).
  • Familiarity with government processes or cultural heritage legislation.
