Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and compassionate Hospital Cleaner (Environmental Services Worker) to join our team at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. In this full-time role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout our facilities. Your work directly contributes to patient safety, infection control, and creating a comfortable healing environment. Full training will be provided to ensure you have the skills and knowledge necessary to excel.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and deep cleaning of patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, offices, restrooms, and public areas.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces, fixtures, and equipment according to established hospital protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Empty and clean waste receptacles, ensuring proper disposal of general and biohazardous waste.
- Dust, mop, vacuum, and buff floors.
- Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damaged items promptly.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with other environmental services staff and healthcare professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to facility cleanliness.
Required Skills
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in cleaning tasks.
- Physical stamina and ability to stand, walk, bend, lift (up to 25 lbs), and push/pull carts for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in cleaning or housekeeping, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe use.
- Understanding of infection control principles.
