Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Hydro Power Technician to join our operations team in Launceston. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational support of our hydro-electric power generation equipment and associated infrastructure. This position requires a proactive approach to safety, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our power generation assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on mechanical, electrical, and control systems of hydro power generation equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex faults in turbines, generators, switchgear, transformers, and control systems.
- Execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational standards.
- Utilise various testing equipment and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve operational issues.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and spare parts inventory.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and safety teams to improve plant reliability and efficiency.
- Participate in an on-call roster for emergency repairs and operational support outside of standard hours.
- Comply with all company safety procedures, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Recognised trade qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, or Electro-Technology.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment, preferably in power generation, heavy industry, or similar utility.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles, including hydraulics, rotating machinery, and high voltage systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and operational manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively.
- Commitment to workplace safety and understanding of Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a hydropower or thermal power generation facility.
- Experience with SCADA systems and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
- High Voltage (HV) switching experience or qualification.
- Confined Space and Working at Heights certifications.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
