Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and culturally sensitive International Student Advisor to join our Office of International Student Services. This crucial role involves providing comprehensive advising to international students on immigration regulations, academic matters, cultural adjustment, and personal well-being. The International Student Advisor acts as a primary resource for students, ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration laws while fostering a supportive and welcoming environment. We offer relocation assistance to the successful candidate.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise international students on complex F-1 and J-1 immigration regulations, ensuring compliance with federal laws and university policies.
- Process immigration documents, including I-20s, DS-2019s, OPT/CPT recommendations, and travel signatures.
- Conduct orientation programs for new international students, covering academic expectations, campus resources, and cultural integration.
- Provide guidance on academic issues, campus resources, financial aid, employment opportunities, and cultural adjustment challenges.
- Collaborate with various university departments (e.g., admissions, registrar, academic advisors) to facilitate a seamless student experience.
- Maintain accurate student records and data in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) and university databases.
- Develop and implement programs and workshops designed to support international student success and engagement.
- Stay informed about changes in immigration laws and regulations relevant to international students and scholars.
Required Skills

- Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and policies.
- Proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education, International Relations, Counseling, or a related field.
- Prior experience working with international students in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of SEVIS and U.S. immigration regulations (F-1 and J-1 visa categories).
- Proficiency in a second language.
- Experience with student information systems (e.g., Banner).
