Job Description
Are you a compassionate individual with an undeniable love for dogs? Mackay Pet Paradise is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Kennel Assistant to join our team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to learn the ropes of animal care, maintain a pristine environment, and provide affectionate attention to our canine guests. Full training will be provided, so prior experience isn’t necessary – just a great attitude and a commitment to animal welfare!
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize kennels, play areas, and common spaces regularly to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Provide fresh food and water to all dogs according to their specific dietary needs and schedules.
- Monitor the health and behavior of dogs, reporting any concerns or changes to senior staff immediately.
- Walk dogs multiple times a day, ensuring they get adequate exercise and potty breaks.
- Engage with dogs through play, petting, and positive reinforcement.
- Administer medications as directed by senior staff or pet owners.
- Assist with bathing and basic grooming tasks as needed.
- Maintain inventory of food, cleaning supplies, and other kennel essentials.
- Assist clients with check-ins and check-outs, providing excellent customer service.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals, especially dogs.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Physical stamina to handle demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Patience and a positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous volunteer or paid experience in an animal care setting (e.g., shelter, vet clinic, pet sitting).
- Basic knowledge of dog behavior and body language.
- First Aid certification for animals.
