Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic and compassionate individual with a deep love for animals? Top End Pet Sanctuary is looking for a dedicated Kennel Hand to join our team. No prior experience is required – we believe in nurturing talent and will provide full training to the right candidate. This entry-level position is perfect for someone eager to start a rewarding career in animal care, helping us ensure the well-being and happiness of our animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily cleaning and sanitization of kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Feeding and providing fresh water to animals according to strict schedules and dietary needs.
- Monitoring animal behavior and health, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to senior staff.
- Administering medication as directed by veterinary staff, following comprehensive training.
- Assisting with animal intake procedures, bathing, and basic grooming tasks.
- Providing enrichment and exercise for animals, including supervised playtime and walks.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of animal activities, observations, and care.
- Ensuring a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for all animals and fellow team members.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for all animals.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and keen observation skills for animal welfare.
- Comfortable working in an environment with various animals, including dogs and cats, of all sizes and temperaments.
- Physical ability to lift up to 20kg, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks in a physically demanding role.
- Willingness to learn, adapt to new procedures, and continuously improve animal care practices.
- Basic communication skills for interacting with staff and following directives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain shortly after employment).
- Some personal experience with animal handling (e.g., caring for personal pets, volunteering).
- A valid Australian Driver's license and reliable transportation to our facility.
