Job Description
The Whiteside Theatre is seeking an enthusiastic and physically capable Live Sound Engineering Assistant to join our production team for concerts, festivals, and various live events. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of live sound reinforcement, stage setup, and technical event production. You will work closely with experienced sound engineers and crew, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. A significant part of this role involves heavy lifting and manual labor to set up and tear down equipment. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about live events who is looking to start a career in sound engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead sound engineers with the setup, operation, and tear-down of audio equipment for live events.
- Safely load, unload, and transport heavy sound equipment, including speakers, amplifiers, cases, and cabling.
- Assist with cabling, patching, and ensuring proper signal flow for various audio systems under supervision.
- Monitor and maintain sound equipment during live performances to ensure optimal operation.
- Troubleshoot basic audio issues and perform minor repairs under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Ensure the stage and technical areas are kept clean, organized, and safe before, during, and after events.
- Collaborate effectively with stage managers, lighting technicians, artists, and other crew members.
- Perform pre-show checks and post-show maintenance on audio gear.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company guidelines during all stages of event production.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs) repeatedly and safely.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and eagerness to learn new technical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Punctuality and a commitment to event schedules.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
- Basic understanding of audio concepts is a plus, but not required – full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role or stagehand work is a bonus.
- Demonstrated interest in live music, sound engineering, or event production.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
