Job Description
Join the Elders team as a Livestock Feed Hand, a crucial role responsible for the daily care and feeding of livestock at our facility in Maitland. This is a highly physical position requiring dedication, reliability, and a strong work ethic. You will be an integral part of ensuring the health and well-being of our animals, working outdoors in various weather conditions. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to start a career in the agricultural industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute feed to various livestock according to strict feeding schedules and nutritional plans.
- Monitor livestock for signs of illness, injury, or distress and report any concerns to supervisors immediately.
- Clean and maintain feed bunks, water troughs, and pen areas to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Operate and maintain feeding equipment, including tractors, loaders, and feed mixers.
- Assist with the movement and handling of livestock as required.
- Maintain accurate records of feed consumption, animal health, and other relevant data.
- Adhere strictly to all animal welfare, biosecurity, and safety protocols.
- Perform general farm duties and maintenance tasks as assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong commitment to attendance.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team.
- Basic understanding of animal welfare principles or a strong willingness to learn.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a farm, agricultural, or animal care environment (even volunteer or casual).
- Current Australian Driver's License.
- Experience operating farm machinery (e.g., tractors, forklifts).
- First Aid certification.
