Job Description

Bristol City Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Local Authority Transport Planner Trainee to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience in transport planning to embark on a rewarding career path. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior transport planners with data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform transport projects and policies.
- Support the preparation of transport assessments, feasibility studies, and detailed reports.
- Learn about relevant transport planning legislation, guidelines, and best practices.
- Participate in site visits and stakeholder engagement activities as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable travel plans.
- Undertake research into new transport technologies and innovative planning solutions.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners on various transport initiatives.
Required Skills
- A keen interest in transport, urban planning, geography, or environmental issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- An eagerness to learn and a proactive approach to work.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree (or working towards one) in a relevant discipline such as Geography, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Strong A-level qualifications, particularly in subjects requiring analytical or spatial reasoning.
- Some understanding of local government functions or public service.
