Job Description

Join IBM Canada as a Localization & Translation Intern and play a vital role in making our global products and services accessible to users worldwide. This entry-level internship is designed for individuals passionate about languages, cross-cultural communication, and technology. You will gain hands-on experience in the localization lifecycle, contributing to projects that involve translating and adapting technical content, marketing materials, and software interfaces for various linguistic markets. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals eager to learn and contribute to a global team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the translation, review, and linguistic quality assurance of various content types (e.g., software strings, documentation, marketing materials) into target languages.
  • Support localization project managers in coordinating tasks and resources.
  • Conduct terminology research and maintain glossaries and style guides to ensure linguistic consistency.
  • Learn to utilize computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and translation memory systems.
  • Participate in linguistic testing of localized products and report any issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, marketing, and engineering, to understand localization requirements.
  • Provide administrative support to the localization team as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in English and at least one other language (written and verbal).
  • Strong interest in language, translation, and global communication.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Communication, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with CAT tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ, Memsource).
  • Basic understanding of localization processes and workflows.
  • Experience with content management systems or bug tracking tools.
  • Exposure to technical writing or marketing content creation.
