Job Description
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our administrative team at Bundaberg Family Health & Wellness. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the billing cycle, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely processing of claims. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, billing codes, and health fund requirements, contributing to the financial health of our practice and a smooth experience for our patients. Key Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical claims to health funds and other payers in a timely and accurate manner.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services.
- Resolve billing discrepancies and denied claims by working closely with patients, insurance companies, and clinical staff.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing regulations, coding changes (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and compliance standards.
- Manage accounts receivable, including follow-up on outstanding balances and processing patient payments.
- Generate and review billing reports, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
- Respond to patient billing inquiries with professionalism and empathy.
- Assist with other administrative duties as needed to support the practice operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or similar role
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, and modifiers
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Medical Administration, Medical Billing, or a related field
- Experience with Best Practice software
- Knowledge of Australian healthcare system and private health insurance processes
