Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Worker to join our clinical support team in Wagga Wagga. This role is crucial in providing direct, person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental health challenges, helping them navigate their recovery journey and achieve their personal goals. You will work closely with clients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team of clinicians to implement recovery-oriented practices, build capacity, and promote social inclusion. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of mental health principles, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualised support and guidance to clients in line with their recovery plans and clinical directives.
- Assist clients in developing daily living skills, managing symptoms, and improving their overall wellbeing.
- Facilitate group activities and psycho-social education sessions focused on skill development and peer support.
- Collaborate effectively with clinical staff, case managers, and external service providers to ensure coordinated care.
- Support clients in accessing community resources, advocating for their needs, and fostering social connections.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records, including progress notes and incident reports, adhering to organisational policies and privacy standards.
- Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Identify and respond to crisis situations, providing immediate support and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Promote a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for all clients.
Required Skills
- Certificate IV in Mental Health, Community Services, or a related field, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Minimum of 12 months experience in a mental health, disability, or community support role.
- Demonstrated understanding of recovery-oriented practice and person-centred care principles.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping and communication.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with full comprehensive insurance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline.
- Experience with NDIS framework and service delivery.
- Lived experience with mental health challenges (personal or as a carer) and willingness to use this experience constructively.
- Experience in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
