Job Description
The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote Government Payroll Clerk to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote, full-time opportunity offering an excellent pension plan and comprehensive benefits. In this critical role, you will play a key part in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for government employees, adhering to federal regulations and collective agreements. Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll for a designated group of government employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal pay policies, legislation, and collective agreements.
- Review and verify timesheets, leave requests, and other payroll-related documentation.
- Calculate and process deductions, benefits, and statutory remittances (e.g., income tax, EI, CPP).
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, benefits, and deductions in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation and distribution.
- Collaborate with HR and finance teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve processes.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing.
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with government or large organizational payroll systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP).
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or equivalent.
- Knowledge of public sector collective agreements.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a strong asset.
