Job Description
Tyson Foods is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Meteorologist / Climate Scientist to join our dynamic Environmental and Sustainability team in Springdale, AR. This pivotal role will contribute to understanding and mitigating climate-related risks and opportunities across our vast supply chain and operations. You will be responsible for analyzing weather patterns, climate data, and environmental impacts to inform strategic decision-making, enhance operational resilience, and support our sustainability goals. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed meteorological and climatological analyses to assess short-term weather impacts and long-term climate trends on agricultural supply chains and processing operations.
- Develop and implement climate risk assessment models and tools to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities.
- Provide expert guidance on weather-related operational decisions, including resource allocation, logistics, and disaster preparedness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., supply chain, agriculture, research and development) to integrate climate science into business strategies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and forecasts for internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in climate science, meteorological techniques, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Support the development and execution of Tyson's sustainability and environmental stewardship initiatives.
- Contribute to public-facing communications regarding our climate resilience and sustainability efforts.
Required Skills
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in meteorological forecasting, climate modeling, or environmental science.
- Proficiency with meteorological software, climate models (e.g., WRF, GCMs), and geographic information systems (GIS).
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including statistical analysis and data visualization.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience with large datasets and scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the agricultural or food industry, particularly related to supply chain climate resilience.
- Familiarity with remote sensing techniques and satellite data analysis.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to meteorology or climate science.
- Project management experience in environmental or scientific initiatives.
- Certifications in specialized meteorological or climate modeling software.
