Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Microbiologist to join our dedicated team in Newcastle upon Tyne. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of microbiological tests and analyses to support our clients’ research and development programs. This role involves meticulous laboratory work, accurate data recording, and adherence to stringent quality control standards. You will contribute to the safety and efficacy assessment of various products, working within a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized microbiological assays, including sterility testing, bioburden analysis, and microbial identification.
- Prepare culture media, reagents, and samples in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Analyze and interpret test results, maintaining detailed and accurate records.
- Participate in the investigation of out-of-specification results and assist in root cause analysis.
- Contribute to the development and validation of new microbiological methods.
- Adhere to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other regulatory guidelines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and other departments.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research setting.
- Proficiency in aseptic techniques and microbial culture methods.
- Familiarity with various microbiological testing methodologies (e.g., microbial enumeration, identification, sterility).
- Strong attention to detail and excellent record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques for microbial identification.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as GLP, GMP, and ISO standards.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
