Job Description
PwC is seeking an experienced and meticulous Notary Public to join our dynamic team in Reading, Berkshire. This is a critical role that involves providing essential notarial services to our diverse clientele, including businesses and individuals with international dealings. The successful candidate will be responsible for authenticating, certifying, and witnessing documents for use abroad, ensuring compliance with both UK and international legal requirements. You will play a pivotal role in facilitating our clients’ cross-border transactions and legal needs, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and accuracy. This position requires a deep understanding of notarial practice, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage a varied workload effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute notarial acts, including witnessing signatures, administering oaths, and certifying true copies of documents for international use.
- Verify the authenticity of documents and the identity of signatories.
- Prepare Notarial Certificates and Apostilles as required.
- Advise clients on the notarial requirements for various jurisdictions.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all notarial acts in accordance with legal and professional standards.
- Ensure full compliance with the Notaries Practice Rules and other relevant legislation.
- Liaise with legalisation offices (e.g., Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Embassies, Consulates).
- Manage client appointments and consultations efficiently.
Required Skills
- Current and valid commission as a Notary Public in England and Wales.
- Proven experience as a Notary Public, preferably within a corporate or legal environment.
- Excellent understanding of notarial law, practice, and international conventions (e.g., Hague Apostille Convention).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.
- Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional legal qualifications or a background in law (e.g., Solicitor, Barrister).
- Experience with complex international transactions requiring notarisation.
- Fluency in one or more foreign languages relevant to international business.
- Membership in the Notaries Society.
