Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Nursery Worker to join our vibrant team at our Derry/Londonderry location. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for horticulture, even if you are just starting your career. As a Nursery Worker, you will be instrumental in maintaining the health and appearance of our extensive plant stock, assisting customers, and ensuring the nursery operates smoothly. Full training will be provided to help you develop a deep understanding of plant care and customer service within a bustling garden centre environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Watering and feeding plants according to specific requirements.
  • Potting and repotting various plant species.
  • Pruning, weeding, and general plant maintenance.
  • Assisting with the unloading and merchandising of new plant deliveries.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation within the nursery area.
  • Providing friendly and helpful advice to customers on plant selection and care.
  • Operating basic nursery equipment safely.
  • Monitoring plants for pests, diseases, or deficiencies and reporting issues.

Required Skills

  • A genuine interest in plants and horticulture.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a garden centre, nursery, or similar horticultural environment (volunteer experience considered).
  • Basic knowledge of plant varieties and care.
  • A valid driving licence.
