Job Description

Are you a passionate and dedicated nursing student eager to gain invaluable hands-on clinical experience during your summer break? Our Summer Clinical Externship program offers a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a real-world hospital setting, working alongside experienced registered nurses and healthcare professionals. This externship is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and clinical practice, providing supervised patient care experiences, exposure to diverse specialties, and mentorship to foster your professional growth. This is an entry-level opportunity for students with zero experience, providing full training and support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Registered Nurses with patient care activities under direct supervision, including vital signs, personal hygiene, and mobility assistance.
  • Observe and learn from experienced healthcare professionals across various units and specialties.
  • Participate in patient assessments, care planning, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Document patient information accurately and efficiently in electronic health records.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols.
  • Engage actively in educational sessions and clinical skills development workshops.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited BSN or ADN nursing program.
  • Completion of at least one clinical rotation (preferred but not strictly required for entry-level).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, compassion, and a genuine desire to care for others.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent observational and critical thinking abilities.
  • Commitment to patient safety and ethical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in nursing coursework.
  • Previous volunteer or healthcare experience (e.g., CNA, HCA) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential or involvement in student nursing organizations.
