Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Qualified Paramedic to join our dedicated team in Townsville. As a frontline emergency responder, you will be responsible for providing immediate and advanced medical care to patients in pre-hospital settings, often under high-pressure situations. This role requires exceptional clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a dynamic team. You will assess patient conditions, administer appropriate medical treatments, operate life-saving equipment, and safely transport patients to medical facilities. Our paramedics are crucial in ensuring the health and safety of the Queensland community, embodying professionalism and compassion in every interaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency calls efficiently and safely, operating emergency vehicles under all conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, medical history taking, and vital sign monitoring.
  • Administer pre-hospital medical care, including advanced life support (ALS) interventions, medication administration, and trauma management.
  • Utilize and maintain a wide range of medical equipment, ensuring operational readiness at all times.
  • Effectively communicate with patients, their families, medical professionals, and other emergency services personnel.
  • Document patient care records accurately and thoroughly, adhering to QAS protocols and standards.
  • Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development and training.
  • Adhere to all QAS policies, procedures, and relevant legislative requirements.
  • Participate in community health initiatives and public education programs as required.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and operational readiness of ambulances and medical equipment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Paramedicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration with the Paramedicine Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Valid Australian Driver's License with an F endorsement (or ability to obtain).
  • Demonstrated experience in pre-hospital emergency medical care, including ALS procedures.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and make sound judgments in critical situations.
  • High level of physical fitness and ability to perform duties associated with emergency response.
  • Proficiency in using medical equipment and technology.
  • Commitment to patient safety and ethical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced qualifications in trauma care, cardiac life support, or rescue operations.
  • Previous experience working in regional or remote emergency services environments.
  • Completion of QAS-specific training programs.
  • Experience in training or mentoring junior paramedics.
  • Fluency in additional languages.
